Day 26- Forever In a Day Leaked Review

First, about leaked music. Before you get mad or let people around you tell you that the public is bogus for "illegally" downloading music, consider everyone who got a copy of your music before it hit the shelves on Tuesday. Clean your house first before you worry about what clutters your potential customer's hard drive.

Now, here is "Forever In A Day", the sophomore release from the MTV "Making The Band" star boy group Day 26. Lucky for me, I have successfully missed the last few seasons of the show, which allowed me to listen to the CD without the extra hype. Who knows how what I have been hearing about Que's behavior on the show would have affected me for this review.

This is a unique arrangement of voices put together that has worked out for the most part up to this point and there are several tracks from their debut release that contribute to the anticipation of this album.

I have no complaints from any of the tracks from 4-15, which is the end of the CD. Even the songs I would not get into are still respected in regards to a complete work. Perfectly Blind (7) and Reminds Me Of you (13) provide the best writing, production, and vocal aesthetics on the album, while the rest is pleasant filler. Imma Put It On Her (2) featuring Young Joc and Diddy seems to be the formula for a lead single and therefore does not make use of the group's vocal talents rightfully so.

Track 3 (Shawty Wats Up) is probably the most awful thing I have done to my ear drums in a long time. This is a bad song. I have no metaphor for how bad it is. It's just a really bad song. 14 tracks strong without this song makes the CD a pretty good CD. This song does damage to the whole body of work. You should thank God for the ability to skip or even not buy this song.

Overall, its a decent CD that will appeal to the core demographic, teen girls. In reflection of what a good Day 26 song sounds like, I immediately think Are We In This Together, which is not on this album and speaks directly to if this body of work will be considered a classic. In case the answer wasn't clear, it's no. If you already purchased the first CD and a fan already, buy it to complete the collection, but if your are just a small tad bit more critical than blind (or deaf), it's a download.

CBS Wins By A Questionable TKO

"Saturday Night Fights" made its debut on CBS in their attempt to be apart of today's sporting culture by being the first network to bring professional MMA to network television. For the first time in history of television, fans did not need cable, premium channels, or purchase a pay per view to see the action.......

I caught the program during the explanation of the rules. Frank Shamrock explained the 3 ways in which a match could be won. 1 of these, of course, was the TKO- defined by EliteXC as when a judgement call is made by either a ref or doctor that the fight cannot go on due to the inability of a fighter to defend or counter a series of blows and techniques..........

So just by looking at the numbers, we were able to witness 4 KOs out of 5 matches.

Ok, ok, ok........ we stop the bullshit now.

The first 2 fights were first round KO's so we'll skip ahead a little bit.

Gina Carano -def- Kaitlin Young by TKO

The women's division is what I believe is one of the key factors in the CBS/EliteXC deal. This was one for the main matches that was aim to satisfy. I was loving everything about this match, being the first that made it into a second round and had the most action at this point. This match also served as example of what EliteXC considers a TKO......

Or it could have shown what CBS considers a TKO.....

Gina Carano unleashed a fury of strikes toward the end of round 2 that cause Kaitlin Young's left eye to swell up in the same fashion of your favorite carton character's misfortune with a baseball bat or falling anvil. I don't think that the eye swelling would have deflated enough for Katlin to finish the last round, so at this point I suspect nothing.

Robbie Lawler and Scott Smith's No Contest

First of all, the crowd's spoiled asses boo the hell out of this fight because Robbie and Scott spent the greater time in the first round sizing each other up. When they finally started mixing it up, this was on point to be an instant classic. It was what we expected a title fight to be......

So Robbie pokes Scott in the eye and they call time and tell Robbie he has 5 minutes to recoup, which occurred about 30 seconds before they called a no contest, exclaiming that Scott saying "I can't see" 2 times in a row meant he was legally blind enough to not be able to continue the fight.

C'mon.........

How many fouls do you call in a NBA playoff game?

We have all experienced a finger in the eye..... and been ok about 5 minutes later. Now in no way am I looking forward to seeing an eyeball pop out on the mat, he didn't even have any swelling, or a scar, did not blink one time during the post fight interview, and not one drop of blood...........
In what we already know to be the bloodiest sport in existence, a title match was ruled no contest due to a potential eye injury that show no signs of injury, including BLOOD!!!

They both were awarded their winning bonuses, as some means to compensate for something.......

Kimbo Slice def James Thompson by TKO(?)

First off, just let me go on record for saying that what Kimbo dod to win this fight was the right thing to do. Attack the ear in the third round and force the decision. Great job by his corner staff because that is exactly what he needed to do.

Because, Kimbo got his ass whooped.....

I saw James Thompson take every haymaker Kimbo threw and where he may have not taken them well, there wasn't one honest KO punch that connected.

Ok then tell me this: a TKO is when basically a fighter is taking hits and not defending himself, right?

Right? Ok then.... James took 4 more punches after the ear thing on his feet when they rules TKO in favor of Kimbo, but there was nothing to say about the 2+ minutes Kimbo was on his back taking elbows and pounds in a clear position to counter and just sat there waiting the round out.
If you are sitting there taking hits with no defense waiting for the bell, you basically gave up and you should get the TKO bell.

At least, by EliteXC standards.......

or is it by CBS standards.....

See here is when you call into question the media's blatant disregard for human intelligence. We are fans of the sport, getting the best camera angles and video clarity in this generation. We have several ways to get our facts and express our opinions about these sporting events. To turn around and play us like we don't understand what's really going on is absurd.

To anybody who knew nothing about MMA, EliteXC, UFC, Pride Fighting, etc... before today, please be advised that the CBS version was a misrepresentation of what fans of the sport know to be MMA competition.

And really, the fights could have been boring.

Or we as fans could have had high expectations.

But, I feel that the only thing that ruined the telecast was the interference on a level that is out of the comfort zone of the sport as a whole, but more specifically the fighters and the fans.

Sorry CBS, but I don't think I can help you out on the ratings on this one in the future.

2 Year Anniversary For Ranting Of Gas Pump Prices

2 years ago, I wrote a blog for a now debunked collaborative blogging site about the rise in gas prices ( at the time that we were mad as hell about $2.19/gal) and what do you know....... I come across the hard copy my post right on it's 2 year anniversary of its' debut. Perfect reason and time to add it here.....

When gas goes $5 a gallon, what will you do?

You may have heard many reasons of why the hike in gas prices.

We are at war and war costs money.

We are running out of oil.

The Middle East controls the prices.

Does it really matter to you why? Every reason that can be given or speculated upon revolves around things that you basically cannot control. We all have seen the emails about not buying gas on a particular day or not buying gas from Exxon and Mobil. How effective have these ideas been so far? We are paying record setting prices for gas and the situation, for whatever reason, is not getting any better for us.

Robert Kiyosaki, best selling author and investor, wrote “Higher oil prices are not caused by a lack of financial education; they are caused by greedy self-interests and a lack of financial vision. Although we have the technology and alternative energy resources to replace oil, we have not done so. As a nation and a world, we will suffer financially because of this greed and lack of vision.”

Many businessman and financial teachers, such as Robert, believe that the nation is on a course of financial turmoil within the next few years when the nation will have to honor the empty promises to retirement, social security, and 401(k) to the first set of baby boomers that will be retiring soon. One of these horrible revelations is the escalation of crude oil prices.

Donald Trump paints the picture by saying to a fellow investor, “If gasoline costs $5 at the pump, it does not affect [you] me that much. But if you’re earning $10 an hour, then $5 a gallon will take food from your family.”

We will see the day the oil goes $100 per barrel, or $5 at the pump, and I believe it is better to be proactive.

So, will you sit and wonder and debate why? Because the rich won’t. Nor will they be affected that much by it.

Why Eli Porter is the best......MANG...

I am writing to you as a citizen of the state of _____. Like many across the country, I have been following the Sean Bell case and eagerly awaiting what I was sure would be a fair and just verdict in the case against Officers Oliver, Cooper and Isnora. I am sad to say that, in my opinion, this was not at all the case.

I am aware that the position of a police officer is one that carries with it great stress,a need for quick thinking and not nearly as much respect as it deserves. However, in Sean Bell’s case, this was a gross abuse of power and excessive force. As a citizen of the United States, I am outraged at the verdict handed down in the case of Sean Bell. I am equally outraged with time and time again hearing of abuses such as this coming from a police force you oversee.

I understand that you cannot overturn the verdict. However, I implore you to take immediate action. These officers, along with Officers Headly and Carey, need to be dismissed from their posts. The change in training that officers receive has been noted, but is it enough? Are we due for another outrageous show of violence at the hands of your officers in the near future? I truly hope that is not the case.

These acts within your ranks cannot be erased. Your role in being the head of a group that employs such cowards serving along with, and tarnishing the image of, the noble officers you do have cannot be erased either. You hold just as much responsibility as they do. [If I was] [As] a resident of the City of New York, I [would be] [am] calling for your position to be questioned as well. An action such as this requires swift and long reaching changes to prevent its reoccurrence. Your tenure has certainly not been without other moments of gross negligence and reckless behavior on the part of YOUR officers. It is time to make sure this never happens again, and not just give lip service to a ‘better tomorrow’. It is my sincere hope that your current staff does not repeat, yet again, any or all of the actions taken by Officers Oliver, Cooper, Isnora, Headly and Carey.

I am looking forward to reports of major changes at One Police Plaza and for those changes to reach EVERY precinct in New York.

You know we have been pretending for a while that Artie Lang is "normal" enough to be listened to on the Howard Stern Show. What happened is not a surprise at all to its more intellegent listeners. Artie has issues. We can all speculate drugs or alcohol, but we know it's something.

What exactly is it with the entertain business where we have to entertain and tolerate the problems that entertainers chose to ignore? And does that make us at least half as sick as they are? Or maybe more?

GTA IV May Carjack Iron Man Ticket Sales

"The target audience for the upcoming Iron Man movie may be preoccupied with Grand Theft Auto IV, releasing days earlier, softening box office sales, according to one analyst."

Oh boo hoo. So here is someone noticing some random bs just for the purpose of dodging some writer's block or fish for something to talk about during a time where there is nothing to talk about. Mr. Analyst is remembering when Halo 3 was released and the coincidence that cinema dollars took a dive that following weekend and pre-predicting that we may be looking at the same thing the weekend following the release of long anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV in which Marvel's Iron Man takes the screen.

Ok, I'll bite. Halo 3 was released on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 and would go on to do over $170 million in sales within 24 hours. Movie releases for the following weekend included Disney's The Game Plan ($22.7) and The Kingdom ($17.1). These were 2 of only 3 movies that opened nationwide that weekend. Now I don't imagine for a second that someone of the Halo demographic is rushing to see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in a kiddie flick. So, why would you think that on an entertainment level, The Kingdom is going to compete against staying at home and playing Halo 3? 3rd game in a blockbuster series, 1st on a next gen console, and supported by countless viral marketing and a beta testing campaign earlier that year. You have to forgive gamers for being a little jaded into going with a guaranteed good time versus an "iffy" night out at the movies.....and just think how a Mario or a Call of Duty release would have affected these numbers........that is if things really worked this way.

See, you can save games, pause games, or just quit them now and play them again later.... and this is what gamers would have done if there was a highly anticipated movie playing in theaters. So the idea of sudo-blaming one industry for the short comings of another is almost insane.

So if GTA IV is released and Iron Man suffers in sales, could it be because potential movie goers are stuck in "Liberty City"?

Maybe.

It could have something to do with the fact that the GTA series is another record making video game series with 3 exciting previous releases and 5+ spin-offs along with some great viral marketing.

Maybe.

Or Iron Man's success could depend on it being a remake of a mediocre comic book series to be apart of a series of comic book adaptations in which over 80% of them suck (closer to 90% for Marvel releases).

The truth in the matter is that Iron Man is highly anticipated. It looks like it's going to be a good movie. GTA IV is highly anticipated as well. It looks like it's going to be a good game. So if Iron Man's first weekend sales are less than desirable, don't blame the gaming industry. Gamers that actually want to see Iron Man will drive to the nearest Liberty City safe house, save the game, and go see the damn movie!!

Lil Wayne Explains His Addiction

In recent addiction news, Lil Wayne talks about being addicted to syurp, shortly after this same drink was revealed to be a contributing factor in Pimp C's passing. Wayne, like many rappers before him, of course gave listeners all the clues through his music. Now in an interview with Anthony Springer Jr of hiphopdx.com, he talks about it as if family and friends and fans need to start getting their goodbyes in early, as he is hopeless of being free from his vice.

"It ain't that easy — feels like death in your stomach when you stop doing that shit. You gotta learn how to stop, you gotta go through detox. You gotta do all kinds of stuff. Like I said, I'm a selfish-ass n---a. I feel like everything I do is successful and productive. It's gonna be hard to tell me I'm slipping. It's hard to sit and tell a nigga 'Stop.' 'Fuck, how can we tell this nigga to stop when every fucking thing he do is successful? This nigga is making progress. He just went and talked to kids and that shit was amazing.' Feel me? So what am I doing wrong?"

he also exclaims:

Now, it's one thing to lose someone and later find out clues to what may have done them in, but how do Lil Wayne fans cope with watching one of their favorite rappers going down a very narrow path to destruction?

If you knew someone with an addiction and they thwarted the possibility of help by threating the situation will get worse if you keep pushing, what is the best plan of action?

Is it truly the hip-hop state of mind to let a dying man roam? I bring up hip-hop because it is a culture that promotes self governing and promoting individuality against all odds (Pac intended) and feeling that normally people would do whatever they could to help him face and conquer his problem whether he liked it or not.

Do we respect a dying man's wishes before he is dead?

Boondocks lacking luster?

Speaking of "must've forgot"...the heads over at Cartoon Network must've forgot what made the Boondocks such a quality hit. Before everyone gets up in arms, allow me to explain. In season 1, it seemed to be a certain type of formula for a successful episode: Hijinx, a few "nigga you gay"s here and there, and overall hilariousness abound, all to be wrapped up with a "Learn Me Sumthin'" message from Huey. This season? Huey is merely wallpaper in a photograph; play the background. He is only seemingly around to be plugged into a random fight scene here and there, and throw a few verbal barbs Riley's way (who has become the main focus of the 2nd season). My homegirl Kirby and I were talking about this, and she said that she felt like she learned something after the old episodes...and mind you, she's grown and intelligent. So imagine the effects such a show could have on younger children. Now they are only going to be privy to controversy that they may or may not pick up on, such as the "S-Word" episode and the BET banned episode. I'm not so much saying that The Boondocks is terrible now, nor questioning the genius that resides within Aaron McGruder...I just think that things have changed, and it might possibly be the network's fault, or perhaps an attempt to further expand the characters, one at a time, season by season. What is your take on it?

I have been gravitating away from the second season for that reason. I think the bullshit that made Chappelle up and go to Africa is happening here. I really truly think that you effectively push the bar as they do without the message. Without the message, you just have an exploit. And the black/hip hop community has so much self inflicted exploits working against us that it is starting to get out of control. For example:

This guy 5 years ago would have gotten Jena 6'ed without blinking. I don't even think that this guy was scared in the least about what he did. But who is to blame?

IT would be better for us if the Boondocks took a page out of South Park's book and remember what the point of the comic strip was in the first place, but I don't think the money is going to tell them that for us.

I don't see it as a move to expand a company. That is just what they will tell the public, of course. Having the ability to call a spade a spade, I see it as EA taking further action to eliminate the competition. EA developers are viruses and they will infect any developer that comes into the company the same laziness and lack of depth that the current ones use making back to back top selling blockbuster epic fails.

EA will want to continue to make titles based on movies and comics and will employ those "third party" developers to handle some of that work load, which will get in the way of continuing to make the games that we like.

They eliminated 2K Football with the license acquisition so therefore they are hoping to get a hold of the 2K sports division and hope to brand it "Live". They are lying if they actually say otherwise (which I believe they won't).

Not only do I not support this business move, I am quite disgusted by it and wish EA falls victim to something in the flavor of Fight Club's Project Mayhem.
